The young forward for the Montreal Canadiens, Ivan Demidov, continues to make headlines across the NHL today.

Last night's dramatic victory over the Blackhawks created a special atmosphere in the Canadiens' locker room.
However, Ivan Demidov is drawing attention today, not only for his incredible talent but also for some subtle gestures he makes on the ice.
In particular, journalists from Montreal (of course), as well as from New York and Toronto, are talking today about this specific sequence involving Demidov.
"THE BACKCHECK FROM DEMIDOV???"

- Nathan "Grav" Murdock
Indeed, it's a subtle move, but it's one that's generating a lot of buzz today and shows just how much more complete a player Demidov could be than many people think.

A defensive backcheck that speaks volumes about young Ivan Demidov's effort

It's really positive!
"What a back-check by Habs Ivan Demidov"

Stu Cowan
"That backcheck from Ivan Demidov on the PP was *chef's kiss*"

- Marco D'Amico
"Horrible giveaway by Laine, but what a backcheck by the rookie. Demidov always goes all out.

- Marc Dumont
Beyond the statistics, these are the kinds of actions that can truly have a positive impact on a hockey game!
Last night against the Chicago Blackhawks, in just over 13 minutes of ice time, Ivan Demidov didn't record any points, had a -1 plus/minus, and served two minutes in penalties.
Martin St-Louis clearly prefers to integrate young Demidov more gradually into his lineup at the start of the season.
Still, #93 saw a few more opportunities last night, particularly on the power play.
