The name Sidney Crosby refuses to leave the media covering the activities of the Montreal Canadiens in recent weeks.
Knowing that the Pittsburgh Penguins are no longer really able to make the playoffs, and knowing that Crosby is truly eager to return to the postseason, the connection is understandable.
Some have even already proposed concrete trade offers.
John Buccigross adds to the Sidney Crosby and Montreal Canadiens rumors
Buccigross, who is very well informed and does not cover the Montreal Canadiens at all (meaning he is very impartial), just made the following statement on the Spittin' Chiclets podcast:
John Buccigross on Spittin' Chiclets:
"I would like Sidney Crosby to wake up one day and say I wanna play for Montreal.
They were my team as a kid, they're coming, they're on the up.
I think if Sid's going to go anywhere.. Montreal is the only place where he'd go."
He also added that things are going to heat up in this case over the next few weeks, especially if the next head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins is not one of number 87's favorites.
At 37 years old, Sidney Crosby recorded 91 points in 80 games this season, including 33 goals, and has a career total of 1687 points (625 goals) in 1352 games in the National Hockey League.
His contract, paying him $8.7 million per year, is valid until the summer of 2027.
After that, he will become an unrestricted free agent and free as a bird.
