Now That He's Retired, David Savard Sends Clear Warning to Juraj Slafkovsky
Last night on BPM Sports, Montreal Canadiens defenseman David Savard gave a very interesting interview.
Should I say "former defenseman" instead?
Anyway, Savard gave his honest opinion on several topics concerning the Canadiens, and possibly because he is now retired, his answers were a bit less filtered.
One comment, in particular, caught attention, and it concerns young forward
Juraj Slafkovsky.
David Savard clearly warns Juraj Slafkovsky: if the Canadiens want to win, the Slovak must absolutely perform
It's not an ultimatum, it's not a criticism or anything like that, but it's a warning and a responsibility he is giving to Slafkovsky.
"We need a Slafkovsky who performs, otherwise it's going to be hard to win."
- David Savard
Clearly, he's not afraid to put some pressure on Slafkovsky's shoulders, and if he's doing so, it's because he knows very well the young player can handle it.
In any case, these are things Slafkovsky is already very well aware of:
David Savard believes the Canadiens' success will directly depend on Juraj Slafkovsky
I wasn't expecting that, but it shows just how much Savard sees Slafkovsky as a truly key piece for the club's future.
If Slafkovsky performs, the Canadiens will win.
If Slafkovsky doesn't perform, it's going to be very difficult to win.
"Barely retired, the veteran doesn't hide his hope for the young generation, but he also issues a warning: without a dominant Slafkovsky, victories will be rare."
- 98.5 FM Sports
The message couldn't be clearer, and once again, I love hearing this because it shows that Savard knows very well that the young Slovak is capable of handling the pressure.
