It has never been officially announced, but by all indications, goalie Carey Price has retired from the National Hockey League.

However, we are still waiting for the famous official announcement.
According to a possibility advanced by the TVA Sports network, it could become official sooner than expected.

Will Carey Price finally officially announce his retirement? It would help the Habs a lot

Price will be entering the 6th year of an 8-year pact signed in 2017, earning him 84 million dollars.
"What if we decided to terminate this agreement a few months before the deadline? Price has already received the majority of the money in his contract, as the first six years of the deal were the most lucrative." - TVA Sports

Basically, they explain that in 2025, he will only have 7.5 million dollars left to receive (out of 84), and the majority of his money is awarded in signing bonuses.
This means that from July 2, 2025, only two million dollars will be left to award Carey. (a 2 million that will have a 10.5 million impact on the cap)
"Can he afford to leave those two million dollars on the table? Probably. Will he do it? We can afford to doubt it.

Nonetheless, it would give a serious helping hand to the Habs before the start of the 2025-2026 season. This could allow the team to exceed the cap by up to 10% during the off-season and then completely remove the 10.5 million dollars that Price's contract occupies on the team's payroll before the opening game." - TVA Sports

So, will Carey announce his retirement next summer? It is a possibility that would really help the Tricolore, and it would be quite a dramatic turn of events, considering everyone expects him to wait until the end of his contract, but it's to be continued.
Carey Price, 36 years old, has a career record of 361-261-79 in the NHL (all with the Montreal Canadiens) and has a goals-against average of 2.51.
His save percentage, in 712 games, is 0.917 and he has recorded 49 shutouts.
Credit and details:
"It may seem like a trivial idea. But it would be profitable for the Habs and inexpensive for Price. The details here."
