We have two very bad last-minute pieces of news to announce to you. Alex Newhook and Kaiden Guhle will both be out long term.

After crashing into the boards in yesterday's 7-0 loss to the Stars, the Canadiens have now confirmed the worst-case scenario.

Terrible news for Alex Newhook and Kaiden Guhle of the Montreal Canadiens

Here is the official statement just shared by the Canadiens:
"Forward Alex Newhook (fractured ankle) underwent surgery on Friday at the Montreal General Hospital. The surgery was performed by Dr. Greg Berry and he is expected to be out for 4 months.

Defenseman Kaiden Guhle (partially torn adductor muscle) underwent surgery Thursday in New York City. The surgery was performed by Dr. Mark Zoland and Guhle is expected to miss 8 to 10 weeks.

This is a massive blow for the Canadiens, especially since Guhle had started skating again and really seemed close to returning to play.
This is truly a brutal injury update! In Newhook's case, it was expected, but it still hurts the team a lot.
He was having a terrific start to the season with Ivan Demidov and Oliver Kapanen.
Knowing all this, do you still believe the Canadiens can finish among the top two teams in their division?
Here, TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie explains what happened with Kaiden Guhle, because it's quite a shock to learn today that he just underwent surgery.
"Regarding Kaiden Guhle surgery. The Canadiens medical team initially pursued a conservative treatment plan. However, as his on-ice workload increased, it became clear to everyone that a surgical repair was necessary
