When the Habs acquired Kirby Dach in the NHL draft last July, some fans wondered why, after only three seasons, the Chicago Blackhawks organization would trade the man who was selected third overall in the 2019 draft.
Since the start of the Habs' training camp, the 21-year-old forward has shown some nice things, but admittedly there is still a lot of work to be done in his development. While many scouts have compared him to Ryan Getzlaf, let's just say that Dach hasn't broken anything since arriving in the NHL with only 59 points, including 19 goals, in 152 games in Chicago.
Alex DeBrincat, now with the Ottawa Senators, mentioned that the Habs' #77 had some bad luck and that injuries had a big part to play in his development.
Indeed, we recall that Dach was injured just before the World Junior Championship in 2021. To continue with DeBrincat's comments: he is convinced that his former teammate will be very successful in a Habs uniform and it is only a matter of time before he explodes.
Those are pretty reassuring comments for Habs fans who have not been impressed with Dach's performance since the start of training camp, and it will be interesting to see what line Martin St. Louis will use him on when the 2022-2023 season begins.
