While Montembeault seems to have a head start on Primeau, Primeau can't be said to be helping himself right now, as he's had some rough outings since the start of training camp.
During his appearance on TVA Sports' JiC show, journalist Renaud Lavoie was not very complimentary towards the Habs' goaltender and even suggested that the organization send him to spend the entire season with the Laval Rocket.
"There's a two-goal lead in last Saturday's game and he loses the game. We're going to have to get this guy together. I'll be very honest with you. Unless he gets injured, he shouldn't come back to Montreal all season."
The journalist also said that he would not be surprised if Kent Hughes went for another goalie via waivers.
"He has to play in the entire American League. I don't know. Maybe it's just me and maybe I'm talking through my hat...but right now, why not go out and get a goalie via waivers?"
Lavoie went even further in his comments by mentioning that Primeau is not mature enough for a second goalie role and that he is not ready to be third in line.
If Kent Hughes wants to add a goalie via the waiver wire, he needs to do it soon, the season starts very soon!
"This is going to have to be (settled). Your number 3 goalie isn't having a very great camp right now."
Ouch! Comments that, let's face it, make the 23-year-old goalie look pretty bad. But we must admit that Cayden Primeau does not have the development hoped for from the organization of the Habs, especially for the past two years, and it is to wonder if he will ever become a regular goalie in the NHL.
