The Marco Scandella trade became a real steal for the Montreal Canadiens

Marco Scandella's time with the Habs was short-lived. Acquired from the Buffalo Sabres in January 2020 for a fourth round pick in 2020, the Quebec defenseman only played 20 games for the Habs, collecting one goal and two assists in the process.

He was then traded to the St. Louis Blues, less than two months later, for a second round pick in 2020 and a conditional fourth round pick the following year.

So far, nothing out of the ordinary, but as David Armoni of Marqueur.com reports, it has to be said that this trade, made by Marc Bergevin, could prove to be a real stroke of genius.

Jared Book, editor of Eyes On The Prize, posted a message on his Twitter account showing what the Habs finally got for the services of Marco Scandella and let's just say it's not bad at all.

Considering all the personnel moves around this trade, it's like the Habs traded Scandella in return for prospects Sean Farrell, Oliver Kapanen and William Trudeau. Solid!

Farrell impressed at the last Winter Olympics in Beijing and had a very good season with Harvard University this year with 28 points in 24 games.

In the case of Kapanen, Kasperi's cousin who plays for the Pittsburgh Penguins, he represented Finland at the last World Junior Championship and we will be able to see William Trudeau in action in the QMJHL finals, he has 44 points in 68 games this season with the Charlottetown Islanders.

It's still too early to speculate what will happen to these three players in the future, but considering that Scandella is a rather ordinary defenseman in the NHL, it's still a very good return that the former Habs general manager got in this transaction that many fans had long forgotten.
