Jeff Gorton is settling into his seat in the Montreal Canadiens organization. The hockey man will be drawing up his five-year plan, just like those who have gone before. In short, with the current product on the ice, all indications are that the foundation will be rebuilt.
Rebuilding also means "maintaining a core to initiate such a turnaround". From there, which faces will Gorton and his future sidekick look to for the next few years? Which players currently with the group will remain in the locker room to be part of the new core?
The agitator would keep youngsters with speed since the "new" National Hockey League is faster than ever. Isn't that the old identity of the Habs? So we don't keep Josh Anderson, a 27-year-old who skates like the wind?
As far as I'm concerned, if the Tricolore wants to succeed in this turnaround, the young players must be surrounded. They need to have the option of looking to a big brother, a mentor, as the team grows. Maybe someone like Joel Edmundson. On the other hand, not every veteran wants to be part of a rebuild.
