This rumor has gained momentum in the last 24 hours. On Sunday night, following a 4-1 loss to the Penguins, the Vancouver Canucks made the decision to fire their general manager, Jim Benning, as well as their head coach Travis Green.
The question now is who will get the chance to replace these two men and try to turn things around for a team that has experienced a huge regression since being eliminated by the Vegas Golden Knights in the conference semifinals in 2020.
Among the latest names to be put on the table is that of Marc Bergevin, just fired by the Montreal Canadiens. According to Francesco Aquillini, one of the Canucks' owners, the interest is not reciprocated at this time.
As Aquillini mentioned, Marc Bergevin would prefer to take a break and stay away from hockey for now, which is quite understandable considering he spent almost ten years in a market as grueling as Montreal.
In short, we should not see Marc Bergevin make a return to the Bettman circuit anytime soon. However, there is no doubt that he will be a man in demand when he decides to find a new job.
