Forward Mathieu Perreault's stint with the Habs was short-lived, as he announced his retirement from hockey in the last few days.
During the last season, he lived through the whole saga surrounding Carey Price's state of health and as reported by my colleagues at Fanadiens.com, the newly retired forward was a guest on La Poche Bleue le midi and let's just say he wasn't very reassuring about what's next for No. 31.
"He's a determined guy who wants to come back, but his body is having a hard time allowing him to. I wish him very much, but I'm not very optimistic..."
His words are in line with the majority of experts who also say they are quite pessimistic about the future of Carey Price in the NHL.
Even if Perreault will not have been around Price very long, he was very complimentary of the goalie and mentioned all the importance he had in the team's entourage.
When he came back from his long absence due to personal problems, that's when I realized how much of a presence he had in the CH locker room. It was undeniable. He took the time to get all the guys together and talk to them and you could tell, just by the way he addressed the team, that he was a great leader. I had been impressed."
Should Price ever emulate Perreault in terms of retirement, they can say they played the last game of their careers together on April 29, 2022 in a convincing 10-2 Habs win over the Florida Panthers. Price got the win while Perreault scored the last goal of his career.
