Marc Bergevin had an important message to deliver in the public arena following his firing.

One thing is for sure, he is leaving with a heavy heart and he wanted to thank, in one way or another, everyone who was connected to the Habs during his time in Montreal.

It goes like this:

"Hello to everyone,

Saying goodbye to an organization like the Montreal Canadiens is not an easy thing to do. I want to leave the organization the same way I came in... with a lot of pride.

If there is one word that comes to mind right now it is "thank you".

Thank you to all those who, from near and far, have made this dream possible.

Thank you to Geoff for his dedication, support and trust throughout this adventure.

Thank you to the players, coaches, management team, recruiters, and all the field hockey and administrative staff that I have worked with. Without you, I would never have been able to realize my dream.

Thank you to the media for your professionalism and your constant coverage. I would have never thought in my life to have more visibility than our Prime Minister.

And most importantly...

Thank you to the fans for their encouragement, their passion and their loyalty to the Montreal Canadiens.

These past few years have been emotional and learning experiences. You have had a front row seat to my journey at the head of the organization. I would not be telling you anything if I told you that this journey has not been a smooth one and that at times it seemed like a good episode of the TV series. In spite of the pitfalls, the organization that I have led, with a lot of passion, has always risen to the occasion. For me, every experience, good or bad, has made me a better leader.

It was in 2012 that I proudly accepted the challenge of leading the Montreal Canadiens to their 25th Stanley Cup. Although I always said the goal was to make the playoffs and anything could happen once in the playoffs, the real goal was to bring the Cup back to Montreal.

I know you would have liked to hear me say that at every golf tournament, but that thought has been behind every decision I have made since day one at the helm of the organization. This past year has brought us closer to the ultimate goal but not the Holy Grail. But I am proud of what we have accomplished as an organization. I hope with all my heart that this goal will be reached sooner rather than later.

Montreal is the city that saw my first skate, but also the city where I learned to walk as the leader of the most successful team in the national league. This city and this organization will always have a special place in my heart.

That being said, and despite the fact that this epic is coming to an end, I am proud of the legacy I am leaving to the organization. Despite its record, the current edition is much better than it shows and I am convinced that the people who will take over will be able to meet the challenge.

It is with my head held high and with fond memories that I leave my position as General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens.

I wish this organization and my successor all the best for the future.

Thank you once again.

Marc "

Thank you for everything, Marc! 🙏💙🤍❤
