Kent Hughes on the verge of adding two more young players with the Canadiens, including a surprise from the blue line?
For the start of the new year, several journalists assigned to cover the Canadiens shared their predictions for what might happen with the team in 2024.
Among them, Marc-Antoine Godin of Radio-Canada, as reported by the website Rumeursdetransaction.com, would not be surprised to see two prospects from the organization come over from Europe to finish the season in North America.
In a recent article on the Radio-Canada website, Godin mentioned the names of defensemen David Reinbacher and Adam Engström.
Here are his explanations:
«A similar situation could also occur with David Reinbacher. The Kloten team, which owns the Canadiens' first pick in 2023, is going nowhere this season, and Reinbacher would probably benefit from joining the Canadiens or the Laval Rocket as soon as possible. Kloten's schedule in the Swiss A League ends on March 4.
There is also a possibility for Adam Engström, a 20-year-old left-handed defenseman playing with Rögle in Sweden. The CH must ensure not to overload its defensive squad or that of the Rocket next season with too many young players it cannot accommodate.»
While it's not surprising to see the team's first pick in the last draft, Engström's case is another story.
A third-round pick of the Canadiens in 2022, the Swedish defenseman is having a good season in Europe and could prove to be a hidden gem in the organization, much like Jayden Struble this season.
Unlike Reinbacher, expectations for him are lower and it's very promising that Godin mentions his potential arrival in North America; it demonstrates the great depth of the CH's defense.
