We are now less than a month away from the NHL draft which will take place at the Bell Centre next July. Habs fans are in a tizzy to find out who the team's first pick will be.
For a few weeks now, two prospects seem to stand out, Juraj Slafkovsky and obviously Shane Wright. While Shane was expected to be the very first player selected in the first rank, some experts have expressed doubts about him and many do not even see him becoming the very first choice, including a certain Mathias Brunet, journalist at La Presse.
Brunet has often mentioned in recent weeks that if he were the Habs' GM, his choice would be Slafkovsky, and as reported by Marco Normandin, of Habsolumentfan.com, there might be another aspect about the Slovakian prospect that could tip the balance.
Brunet, who was on 91.9 Sports, said that Slafkovsky is still growing and putting on mass, as he is already extremely big for his age.
Slafkovsky is currently at 6'4"/218lbs but his father is taller than him, his mother is 6 feet tall and his grandfather was about 6'7". He has very good genetics and just turned 18. Obviously, it's not just the size that counts but when you're big, you skate, you go to the net, you count, you win your battles along the boards and you have a good shot, those are extra assets!
As we know, with the exception of Josh Anderson, there are not many wingers with a big frame on the Habs right now and the trend seems to lean slightly towards Slafkovsky to become the team's first pick.
Imagine such a winger alongside Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield. That would give the Habs a crazy line for many years to come.
But we're not there yet, because Kent Hughes and his team still have a month to evaluate the best options for the future of the organization, but let's just say that choosing between Slafkovsky or Shane Wright is not an easy task.
