During a discussion with the renowned Elliotte Friedman, Marek and his sidekick mentioned the possibility of the Edmonton Oilers trading defenseman Tyson Barrie.
It seems obvious that it will happen. With the emergence of youngsters like Evan Bouchard, many experts say they would be surprised to see Barrie play another game in an Oilers uniform.
So where could he end up? According to Marek, two teams could be interested:
So the favorites seem to be: the Montreal Canadiens and the Seattle Kraken.
As my colleague Keven Mawn (Fanadiens.com) reports, Barrie is a right-handed, purely offensive defenseman and a power play specialist.
He's 30 years old, makes $4.5 million per season through 2024 and has 41 points, in 73 games, this season. (48 points in 56 games last year) We're talking about two solid offensive seasons here.
That's what Tyson Barrie is all about. A fourth forward, mobile, productive, but don't expect him to be solid defensively.
If you were in Kent Hughes' chair, would you give the Edmonton Oilers GM a call, possibly to replace Jeff Petry?
