In an interview on the Sekeres and Price podcast, reporter Rick Dhaliwal provided some new information on Boeser in relation to the Habs.
Two years ago, Marc Bergevin tried to acquire the Canucks player by submitting a serious offer to then-GM Jim Benning. Bergevin offered Alexander Romanov and a first round pick for Brock Boeser. The former Tricolore GM was even willing to buy a bad contract to give him the best chance to get Boeser. Benning unfortunately refused.
There is a similarity here with the transaction that allowed the CH to obtain Kirby Dach.
Dhaliwal also said that the Canucks might be interested in acquiring Sean Monahan, which could be a good start to get Boeser.
It remains to be seen if Kent Hughes is willing to pay big for a player like Boeser.
.@DhaliwalSports on Boeser:
"MTL is interested....go back to the bubble year, there was a big rumor that the #GoHabsGo had made the #Canucks a pretty decent offer centered around Romanov, a pick & they were even willing to take a bad contract...but Benning said no." @VanMortgage- Sekeres and Price (@sekeresandprice) December 10, 2022
