As the 2024 NHL Draft approaches, Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens will be active in the trade market.
It's absolutely no secret; the general manager himself confirmed it in front of reporters, but he's going to attempt another move like the Kirby Dach or Alex Newhook trades.
However, this time, he might imitate the Colorado Avalanche.
Kent Hughes about to emulate Chris MacFarland in the trade market
Remember, just before the trade deadline, the Avalanche traded their excellent young defenseman Bowen Byram to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for the young center Casey Mittelstadt.
The reason for this trade is very simple. Colorado had a surplus in defense and a need in offense. Does that remind you of a team that wears blue, white, and red?
"That said, a move that would make a lot of sense would be to do what Chris MacFarland did this year and make a 1-for-1 trade with a team that needs a defenseman.
We remember that the Avalanche, needing help in their top-six and especially at center, traded Bowen Byram to the Sabres for Casey Mittelstadt." - Samuel Doiron
It will indeed be an interesting case to watch, but don't be surprised if Kent Hughes imitates the Avalanche GM and uses one of his good young defensemen to acquire a good young forward with top-six potential.
