One rumor is sending Jake Eichel to Colorado as Joe Sakic has made no secret of his desire to improve his club. This franchise is desperate to reach the next level, a Stanley Cup Final to lift the Cup again.
I'll point out once again that Joe Sakic has already spoken with Kevyn Adams about Eichel, but he had to back off when the Sabres' GM said he didn't want to withhold any of his former captain's monstrous salary.
But despite that aborted discussion, Sakic continues to be aggressive on the phone in an effort to improve his team considerably. The Avalanche hold a ton of picks and several quality prospects to waltz in with a counterpart for a big piece.
According to reports, the names that could end up in Sakic's sights remain Johnny Gaudreau, Tyler Bertuzzi and Patrik Laine. Laine? Yes, the big Finnish guy doesn't seem to be locked in Columbus, and he could certainly fit in with a group that is brimming with leadership.
To be continued, as the other would say...
