The 37-year-old Florida Panthers forward, Brad Marchand, caused a surprise by agreeing to a new six-season contract.
The contract, which will end in 2031, carries an annual value of $5.25 million, and most experts assumed that Marchand would not finish this deal as an active player.
However, the man in question has other plans.
Brad Marchand tells Gary Bettman he'll have to kick him out of the league to make him stop playing
Clearly, number 63 is still having a lot of fun playing in the NHL, and he is nowhere near retirement.
See his more exact statement.
"They'll have to kick me out of the league to make me stop. I'll play until I can't do it anymore. You want to enjoy it for as long as possible."
- Brad Marchand
Let's just say that's as clear as it gets.
"So Marchand has absolutely no intention of retiring before the end of his contract, and he explained that his family has no problem with that, and that they love watching him play." - DLC
Personally, I don't see why Marchand couldn't follow in the footsteps of a player like
Corey Perry, another true hockey lover who, even at the age of 40, provided great service to the Edmonton Oilers this season.
Brad Marchand, who is indeed 37 years old today, is a feisty forward standing 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds, who recorded 20 points in 23 games (10 goals and 10 assists) in the most recent NHL playoffs.
Yes, he's still excellent and very valuable!
