While the possibility of a trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the Columbus Blue Jackets has been proposed, they have just made an announcement.
Knowing that the 6-foot-5 forward has requested a trade from the Jackets, and knowing that he has still not been traded, many questions arise.
To answer them, in the past few hours, the Jackets' general manager Don Waddell made an announcement regarding this matter.
Don Waddell makes an announcement regarding the upcoming Patrik Laine trade
He confirmed that the plan has not changed and that Laine should be traded soon, but he also announced that there is a lot of interest in the NHL to acquire the Finnish player's services.
«There really aren't a lot of free agents. If some teams have the cap space today, they'll probably still have it tomorrow. I know there are teams that are still interested!»

We can expect negotiations to progress once Patrik Laine gets the green light from doctors.
This could unlock quite quickly afterwards.
«Teams keep checking to see if there's anything new. When they call, I tell them: you have to be comfortable with him and everything, but I can't help you at the moment. I don't know the player personally.
I'm not the type to try to deceive people either, so we'll make him available for discussions when he can do so [when he is no longer in the assistance program].»
- Don Waddell, via The Score
According to several reliable sources, Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens are still very much involved in this matter, as they are among the few NHL teams with the cap space to accommodate Laine's contract.
A case we continue to follow closely.
