We finally have a resolution in the Mikko Rantanen situation.
We knew that the Carolina Hurricanes and the Dallas Stars had agreed on the terms of a trade involving Rantanen, but the Stars would only accept the deal if the star forward agreed to a contract extension with them.
That has now happened.

Mikko Rantanen, 28 years old, is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound forward.
This season, he has 6 points in 13 games with the Carolina Hurricanes, in addition to 64 points in 49 games with the Colorado Avalanche.
Rantanen will complete his current $9.25 million per year contract (which expires at the end of this season), and then transition to his new lucrative deal starting next year.
We're talking about an 8-year contract worth $12 million per year, with a total value of nearly $100 million.
