The future of Sidney Crosby in Pittsburgh is becoming more and more talked about as the Penguins are likely to have a miserable 2025-2026 season.
Via his X account, former player agent and current columnist David Ettedgui published a lengthy article where he explains his analysis in this regard, and also takes the opportunity to weigh in on the possibility of seeing Sidney Crosby one day land in Montreal.
The chances of seeing Crosby in Montreal will be very, very high if the Penguins don't land Gavin McKenna, according to David Ettedgui
According to him, everything could indeed depend on the Penguins' chances of acquiring young phenom Gavin McKenna, who will very likely be the first overall pick in the 2026 draft.
"In my opinion, if the Penguins don't get Gavin McKenna, if the Canadiens perform very well in the upcoming season, and if the Canadiens still haven't acquired their much-needed high-level number 2 center by then, I have no doubt that the chances of seeing Sidney Crosby in a blue-white-red jersey will be very, very high-and even greater than the chances of Colorado or any other team."

With the possible arrival of McKenna in Pittsburgh, Crosby could be the perfect mentor, just as Mario Lemieux was when Crosby arrived in Pittsburgh in 2005.
However, if that doesn't happen, Ettedgui finds it hard to believe that Kyle Dubas would stubbornly keep Crosby on the team, knowing full well that a team like the Colorado Avalanche would be ready to acquire him at a high price.
Sidney Crosby will begin the first year of a two-year contract next fall and will be eligible for full free agency in the summer of 2027.
