Insider David Pagnotta Reveals Major Trade Possibilities for Canadiens and Islanders
Insider David Pagnotta recently made an interesting statement regarding the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Islanders led by Patrick Roy.
He revealed several intriguing details about Kent Hughes' updated plan, now that the Canadiens are back in the mix for the NHL playoffs.
«If they can do both (acquire players and trade players), that would be the main goal for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
They have assets still available on the trade market, like David Savard, Christian Dvorak, Joel Armia, and even Jake Evans, who are all under contracts expiring at the end of the season and will continue to generate interest until the trade deadline.
Evans is an interesting name because they would like to keep him, but his value has really increased, so they are juggling this big decision.
Keep him and sign him long-term, or trade him and receive a solid asset in return.
Matheson's name is also circulating.
Now, if we're talking about acquisitions, they've made trades over the past summers, acquiring players like Alex Newhook, Kirby Dach, Patrik Laine.. If they can follow this model and add a young player ready to contribute at the NHL level, that's something they would like to do, I believe.»
- David Pagnotta It's clear that Kent Hughes is open to various possibilities.
«More big trades for the Rangers? Big trades for the Canadiens and the Islanders?» - TFP
Trades Coming for the Canadiens and the Islanders?
As for Patrick Roy's group, Pagnotta believes Lou Lamoriello will wait before trading major pieces, but he is definitely trying to shake things up in the trade market.
Discussions are already underway, according to TFP.
He adds that names like Kyle Palmieri and Brock Nelson could fetch first-round picks.
