We have some NHL waiver action this Thursday afternoon, as the Utah team has placed a big defenseman on waivers.
This provides an additional choice, an extra option for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton on defense, especially if
David Savard ends up being unavailable.
We will have a verdict tomorrow at 2:00 PM.
Dakota Mermis available on NHL waivers
Here is the official confirmation:
«Dakota Mermis (Utah) has been placed on NHL waivers.»
Elliotte Friedman, journalist for Sportsnet
Mermis, 30 years old, is a 6-foot, 197-pound defenseman with 75 games of NHL experience (12 points and 39 penalty minutes).
He has played one game this season but appeared in 47 games last season with the Minnesota Wild (8 points and 33 penalty minutes). Before that, he was with the Maple Leafs organization.
Over the last two seasons, he has accumulated 29 points in 71 games in the American Hockey League, mostly with the Wild's affiliate, and logged 91 penalty minutes.
In junior hockey, he played with the London Knights and Oshawa Generals, winning championships with both teams.
He seems to be a player who took time to develop but could now serve as a solid 6th or 7th rugged defenseman.
And what do you think, will he be claimed by an NHL team in the coming hours?
