The person who is probably the best-connected insider in the entire National Hockey League, Elliotte Friedman, spilled the beans last night and made an interesting statement involving Mikko Rantanen and the Montreal Canadiens.
Friedman, who is obviously not a journalist from Montreal and owes nothing to Montreal, mentioned "he wouldn't be surprised if the Habs tested the waters for Mikko Rantanen."
You read that right. Wow.
A few weeks ago, his colleague Eric Engels from Sportsnet mentioned that the Canadiens had (unsurprisingly) a huge interest in Mikko Rantanen.
Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton, therefore, seem to have tried something in this case.
For Friedman to make a statement like this and name names, there has to be something here.
