At a press conference yesterday following the NHL trade deadline, general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, made several statements.
One of the interesting statements that went under the radar was when he mentioned that he was planning to do the same as in past years, being a seller and trading his pending free agents (
Christian Dvorak,
David Savard, and
Joel Armia). However, the team's five-game winning streak changed everything.
"We thought we would do the same thing as in past years and trade our players, but the guys won five games in a row. We rewarded the players for their efforts."

It is therefore understood that the Canadiens' five-game winning streak may have completely derailed certain trades for Kent Hughes.
He clearly mentions that the plan changed because of these five victories.
A five-game winning streak that completely changed Kent Hughes' and the Montreal Canadiens' trade deadline plans
It's fascinating to see that Kent Hughes outright admitted that he was going to be a seller, but that this winning streak changed the plan.
Without this fortunate streak, would David Savard, Joel Armia, and Christian Dvorak still be with the Montreal Canadiens today?
We obviously can't confirm it 100%, but absolutely everything indicates that the answer to this question is no.
In short, it will be interesting to see what this group can accomplish by the end of the season, especially since Kent Hughes changed his plan practically at the last minute.
