Controversial Former Canadiens Player Strongly Advised Sidney Crosby Against Playing in Montreal

Player agent David Ettedgui has just revealed some rather surprising and shocking information regarding Sidney Crosby and the Montreal Canadiens.
While speaking more generally about the situation, he said the following:
"As I had exclusively mentioned several years ago on 91.9 Sport/BPM Sports, if it weren't for a former Canadiens player who strongly advised him not to sign as a free agent with the Canadiens at the time, Crosby might have already been a Hab for some time now."

After digging a bit, the identity of that former Canadiens player who strongly advised Crosby against coming to Montreal hasn't been revealed, but it's said to be a player who was never very well-liked in the city.

It's no secret that plenty of rumors are currently swirling around Pittsburgh Penguins' number 87, and now the well-connected Ettedgui has added his take.
He arrives at the same conclusions as many other insiders and experts:
- Despite the bad advice from that former Canadiens player, yes, Montreal is absolutely still a potential destination for Crosby-if he decides to finish his career somewhere other than Pittsburgh.
- As for the timing of a possible Canadiens trade for Crosby, Ettedgui also believes it would need to wait at least another year. That lines up with numerous sources suggesting that Crosby wants to finish his career alongside Evgeni Malkin.
If Malkin ends up leaving the Penguins next summer-which is already the plan-then Crosby could follow, unless the Penguins win the Gavin McKenna lottery.
