Insider Claims Canadiens May Have Chosen Zachary Bolduc Over Jordan Kyrou in Trade With Blues
Former scout Grant McCagg, who is still very plugged in around the NHL, just made a bold statement regarding the trade between the Canadiens and the Blues.
Most observers assumed the Canadiens failed to acquire
Jordan Kyrou and therefore "settled" for Zachary Bolduc in the deal.
But what if it was the other way around?
Grant McCagg is convinced the St. Louis Blues changed plans at the last minute and preferred keeping Zachary Bolduc over Jordan Kyrou
That's exactly what he said.
"What if it was the Canadiens who didn't want Kyrou?"

"People think the Habs took Zachary Bolduc after failing to land Kyrou, but it might be the opposite - Montreal may have specifically demanded Bolduc in return for Logan Mailloux.
It actually makes a lot of sense."

And when you think about it, it's really not far-fetched.
Bolduc is more complete than Kyrou, more physical, better built for the NHL playoffs, and now it seems the Quebec native has potential in the faceoff circle too.
Two more interesting stats:
Bolduc recorded 14 points in 18 games to end the 2024-25 season, including 9 goals, and earns just $863,000 per year.
I'm really starting to wonder if the Canadiens didn't end up better off with Zachary Bolduc compared to Jordan Kyrou - even though Kyrou is clearly a very talented hockey player.
