We're starting to see some interesting and concrete developments on the trade market, particularly involving the Montreal Canadiens.
The Montreal Canadiens Have Contacted the Calgary Flames to Express Interest in Defenseman Rasmus Andersson
This comes from the excellent Marco D'Amico, the same reporter who broke the news of
Ivan Demidov's arrival in Montreal.
"The name Rasmus Andersson has been circulating heavily in recent days on the trade market.
Sources indicate that the Bruins, Canadiens, Senators, and Blue Jackets have expressed interest in the top-four defenseman."
- Marco D'Amico
Rasmus Andersson, age 28, is a 6-foot-1, 202-pound right-shot defenseman who was drafted in the second round by the Flames in 2015.
He recorded 31 points in 81 games this season, 39 points in 78 games last season, and 49 and 50 points in the two years before that.
Bob Hartley is known to be a big fan of Andersson and would likely approve of this acquisition. He views him as clearly superior to Mike Matheson, so this would be a major upgrade to Martin St. Louis' defense corps.
He's another defenseman capable of logging big minutes.
Andersson is under contract through 2026 at 4.55 million per year.
This is definitely a situation to keep an eye on over the next 48 hours.
Beyond the Montreal Canadiens, other teams reportedly in the mix include the Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators, and Columbus Blue Jackets.
