TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie has just announced that a new player has been removed from the lineup due to trade-related reasons.
This is great news for Martin St-Louis and the Montreal Canadiens, as it officially confirms that the New York Rangers (the Habs' closest competitors) are giving up on the playoff race!
It will now clearly be a battle between the Detroit Red Wings, the Boston Bruins, the Ottawa Senators, and the Montreal Canadiens for the final playoff spot in the East.
It's worth noting that this is exactly what happened with forward
Gustav Nyquist earlier this week, and as expected, he was traded just a few hours later.
So, don't be surprised if Reilly Smith is traded very soon.
"Rangers holding out Reilly Smith from tonight's game for trade deadline reasons. Pending UFA could be dealt before Friday's deadline."
Pierre LeBrun
This is a very interesting development.
"Reilly Smith will not play tonight against the Predators for roster management reasons."
Mollie Walker
Reilly Smith, 33 years old, has 29 points in 58 games this season with the New York Rangers, after recording 40 points in 76 games last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
