Last night, the Canadiens secured a 4-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres, closing the gap to just three points from a playoff spot.
This impressive four-game winning streak is undoubtedly making things more complicated for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton ahead of this Friday's trade deadline.
Here's further proof of that.
Kent Hughes has "no reason to trade anyone," according to Nick Suzuki
Wow, now that's a bold statement!
It's rare to see an NHL player send such a strong and direct message to his general manager, but clearly, Suzuki is speaking on behalf of the entire locker room.
Here's his exact statement, as transcribed in Lefrançois' article.
"The message from everyone who isn't part of management is that we want to stay together.
We've shown that we can win and be a good team.
There's no reason to trade anyone."
Nick Suzuki
It's clear that this will give the front office something to think about.
While it doesn't mean Kent Hughes will trade picks and young players for veterans, I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to add reinforcements with a few years left on their contracts, such as
Dylan Cozens,
Casey Mittelstadt,
Trevor Zegras, etc.
