Analyst Just Revealed Trade Between Canadiens and Rangers That Didn't Materialize
We've just learned an interesting piece of information regarding a trade that was indeed negotiated between the Montreal Canadiens and the Rangers.
During the special "Free Agents" broadcast on RDS, the excellent Marc Denis revealed that a trade was seriously negotiated between Kent Hughes and the New York Rangers at the most recent trade deadline, involving
Alex Belzile.
It was just seconds after the Canadiens announced Belzile's signing earlier today that Marc Denis made the revelation.

This trade had been under negotiation for quite some time, but in the end, it didn't materialize because the Rangers were intent on keeping Belzile.
Now, a few months later, Alex Belzile is officially (once again) a member of the Montreal Canadiens organization after signing a contract here as a free agent.
Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Tuesday that the team has agreed to terms on one-year, two-way contracts with forward Alex Belzile and defenseman Nate Clurman.
This signing marks a return to the Canadiens organization for Belzile, who played for the Rocket from 2018 to 2023. Belzile also served as Rocket captain from 2021 to 2023. In 44 NHL games with the Canadiens, he scored six goals and nine assists while serving 17 penalty minutes."

At 33 years old, Alex Belzile is a 6-foot, 205-pound hometown forward who has collected 15 points in 44 career NHL games.
He recorded 56 points in 66 games, including 19 goals, this season in the AHL with the New York Rangers' farm team.
He's a solid addition for the young players, the coaching staff, and the organization's culture.
