We just learned why Kent Hughes refused the Philadelphia Flyers' major trade offer involving the highly talented Cutter Gauthier
As you know and as we reported last week, we learned that the Philadelphia Flyers made a major trade offer to the Montreal Canadiens during the 2023 draft.
A journalist from there, Charlie O'Connor, got confirmation that Daniel Brière offered prospect Cutter Gauthier to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for the 5th overall pick, which became defenseman David Reinbacher.
Kent Hughes refused.
Here's why Kent Hughes refused to acquire Cutter Gauthier for David Reinbacher in a trade
The excellent Arpon Basu and Marc Antoine Godin discussed it during their recent «The Basu And Godin Notebook», and the journalist from The Athletic mentioned this.
Firstly, he confirmed the offer. The trade proposal involving Cutter Gauthier was indeed made to Kent Hughes.
Secondly, he revealed why the GM of the Canadiens refused Daniel Brière's proposal.
It was also learned that the Flyers would have also drafted David Reinbacher with this 5th overall pick.
In short, the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens seems to have made an excellent decision, especially now that we know Gauthier did not want to play for a Canadian team.
One can imagine that this negative attitude was possibly another factor that led Hughes to refuse the deal. Good decision.
