The young Emil Heineman is a name that's causing quite a buzz today with the Montreal Canadiens, as he prepares to play his much-anticipated first career game in the National Hockey League.

But what led to Heineman's 1st game with the CH, after being drafted by the Florida Panthers with the 43rd overall pick (2nd round) of 2020?
Well, it was a trade concluded between the Montreal Canadiens and the Calgary Flames in February 2022.

Heineman, already traded twice!

1- On April 12, 2021, Heineman was traded by the Florida Panthers, along with a 2022 second-round pick, to the Calgary Flames, for center Sam Bennett.
2- On February 14, 2022, Heineman was re-traded by the Calgary Flames, along with Tyler Pitlick, a conditional 2022 first-round pick, and a 2023 fifth-round pick, for forward Tyler Toffoli.
And yes, Kent Hughes ultimately acquired two solid pieces in exchange for Toffoli. (a first-round pick and Emil Heineman)
And in exchange for Toffoli (from the New Jersey Devils), the Flames only received a third-round pick and forward Yegor Sharangovich.
In short, that's how Heineman finally landed in Montreal.
As for the other elements of the trade, the 1st round pick became Filip Mesar while the later pick became goaltender Yevgeni Volokhin, an intriguing prospect for the Habs.
With hindsight, what is your opinion of this transaction?
In any case, we are really looking forward to seeing Heineman in action tonight! He has earned this audition!
