Possible trade involving Carey Price: Kent Hughes breaks the silence
In a press conference in the past few minutes to give his assessment following the trade deadline, GM Kent Hughes just made an interesting statement.
He opened the door to trading
Carey Price, or at least, trading his contract.
Hughes was asked if there had been interest from other teams in recent days for a trade involving Carey Price.
"Obviously, if we have a chance to trade Carey, we'll evaluate it, but it wasn't a priority for us. [...] - Kent Hughes"
Hughes did specify, however, that Carey's contract is likely less attractive for other teams to acquire, compared to someone like
Shea Weber, for the following reason:
Weber will earn $1 million per year (in real money) until the end of his contract.
In the case of Price, he will earn around $7.5 million per year (in real money) until the end of his contract.
For a team like the Arizona Coyotes, it makes a difference, but it could still interest them.
There was a very interesting discussion on the subject earlier today on social media, involving François Gagnon of RDS.
And see the full press conference here (Price's response at around the 12-minute mark):
