A major trade has been cancelled at the last second
In the last few seconds, we witnessed a highly unusual scenario on this trade deadline day.
Reputable insiders had announced a trade of James Van Riemsdyk to the Detroit Red Wings, but a twist of fate! Something happened and the trade fell through at the last second.
"Something happened with JVR and Detroit, they just cancelled the trade."
What a mess.
Van Riemsdyk, 33 years old, was a 2nd overall pick (first round) in 2007. He has 23 points (9 goals) in 41 games this season and accumulated 38 points (24 goals) in 82 games last season.
He earns 7 million dollars this season and will be a free agent next summer when his contract ends.
Furthermore, JVR was considered to be the biggest name available today, according to several sources.
Breaking news update: It's confirmed! James Van Riemsdyk was not traded before the deadline. He remains in Philadelphia. Whoa!
