Major development: Are the Canadiens about to announce Mike Hoffman's departure?

Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton will have major decisions to make over the coming weeks and there are some very important dates to remember.

There is obviously draft day and the start of free agency, but there is also an important date as early as this Friday.

This Friday, June 16, NHL teams will officially be able to announce planned contract buyouts.

Since the end of the season, Hughes and Gorton have had time to think carefully about whether they want to buy out one or more contracts, and they will be able to announce their verdict in less than 48 hours.

The name that comes up most often is certainly Mike Hoffman's.

For the team's culture, to make room for a young player, and for several other reasons, many believe he will be bought out in a few hours.

Moreover, as my colleague Alex Desrosiers reports, the site Cap Friendly has released a list of the players who are most likely to have their contract bought out on Friday, and Mike Hoffman is at the top of that list.
