Major: a trade between the Canadiens and Capitals involving two players is currently being negotiated, according to David Pagnotta
The renowned insider David Pagnotta just posted some very interesting information about trade discussions taking place between the Montreal Canadiens and the Washington Capitals.
"I'm told that the Habs indeed had a conversation with the Washington Capitals about
Anthony Mantha and that forward
Joel Armia was part of the discussion." - Pagnotta
Interesting! So, it's really being discussed and it could seriously happen!
Mantha and Armia would be the two players involved.
In any case, Kent Hughes talked with Brian MacLellan (Capitals' GM) to come to an agreement! It would essentially be a way of trading one problem for another.
The Canadiens would assume Mantha's $5.7 million for just one season, while the Capitals would free up some very valuable cap space in the short term. (Armia earns $3.4M for two more years)
Mantha, 29 years old, scored 27 points in 67 games last season with the Caps.
He was acquired from the Detroit Red Wings in April 2021, in exchange for
Jakub Vrana, a 2021 1st round pick, and a 2022 2nd round pick.
He notably recorded 23 points in 37 games in 2022 and 38 points in 43 games in 2020. (0 in 4 this season)
