Despite the coaching change and the solid opportunities given, he doesn't seem to be finding his footing.
A concerning post has just surfaced about Lafrenière.
Brennan Klak, who is a neutral and impartial NHL journalist, just posted this:
We'll say it again, but Brennan is really not a journalist looking for reactions or wanting to draw attention.
He simply mentions things as they are and as he sees them, and he has solid contacts.
In short, it unfortunately continues to be concerning for Lafrenière.
Two weeks ago, the Rangers were optimistic, placing him on their first line and power play, but it's just not working out.
The excitement with the coaching change seems already gone for the Québécois winger.
At this point, a fresh start and a trade might really be the solution.
Lafrenière, the 1st overall pick in 2020, is starting his fourth season with the Rangers. He has 91 points in 216 games, with no points in seven games in the most recent NHL playoffs.
Make no mistake. He's a good NHL player, but it's increasingly hard to see a star player in him.
Could Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens offer him a fresh start? It's always possible because he's still a very talented Quebecer, but you'd probably have to give a lot in return. (Like Kaiden Guhle, 1st round picks, Logan Mailloux, Lane Hutson and the like)
We're not convinced it's the solution for him and for the Habs.
