Since July 1st, the opening day of the NHL free agency market, Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens have been relatively quiet.

One of the most notable acquisitions is the signing of Lias Andersson, a former first-round pick of the New York Rangers under Jeff Gorton.
Andersson was signed by Montreal on July 2nd.

Updates on Andersson

There have been few notable signings, but there have been some significant departures, including Anthony Richard.
According to sources, these moves are directly related, and one did not come without the other.
On BPM Sports, Pat Laprade also identified Lias Andersson as Anthony Richard's replacement in the eyes of the Canadiens' management.
Therefore, we can expect Andersson to have a similar role as Richard did.
Here are his explanations:
"We would have offered the same contract to Anthony Richard. Could we have signed Anthony Richard for the same terms he just received in Boston or have Lias Andersson? I think we took the bet that Andersson had a higher talent ceiling and more potential." - Pat Laprade

Interesting!
Andersson signed a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000.
He was indeed the 7th overall pick (1st round) in the 2017 NHL Draft, selected by Jeff Gorton and Nick Bobrov for the New York Rangers. He was drafted 6 spots ahead of a certain Nick Suzuki.
At 24 years old, Andersson is a 6-foot-1 center who has amassed 17 career points in the NHL but has been very dominant in the AHL at a young age.
17 points in 15 games in 2021
6 goals in 4 games in 2022
60 points in 67 games in 2023
4 points in 3 playoff games
It will be truly interesting to follow his development.
