Awful news is confirmed for Matthews and the Leafs ahead of game 5
As the Toronto Maple Leafs already face elimination against the Boston Bruins, here is some sad news for them and their fans.
They will apparently have to manage without their best player, Auston Matthews, but let's be honest, in any case it would be over for the Leafs.
What are the chances of them coming back in the series against the mighty Bruins of Boston, without their best player? (or with their best player at 60% of his capabilities)
"Statistics for Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and Tavares this season:
Auston Matthews
In the regular season: 107 points, including 69 goals, in 81 games
In the playoffs: 3 points, including 1 goal, in 4 games
Mitch Marner
In the regular season: 85 points, including 26 goals, in 69 games
In the playoffs: 2 points, including 1 goal, in 4 games
William Nylander
In the regular season: 98 points, including 42 goals, in 82 games
In the playoffs: No points in 1 game
John Tavares
In the regular season: 65 points, including 29 goals, in 80 games
In the playoffs: 1 goal in 4 games" Let's just say, as my colleagues at Marqueur mention, the statistics speak for themselves!
A sad announcement for Maple Leafs fans involving Auston Matthews
Unfortunately, the worst seems to be confirmed for them.
Matthews was once again absent today, and in the press conference, their head coach Sheldon Keefe seemed very unsure about having him in the lineup for tomorrow's crucial game.
« Leafs practice has started and Auston Matthews is not on the ice. The Leafs' center was pulled from game number 4 by the team doctor, due to an illness.
When Matthews missed Friday's practice, Dewar skated on the first line as a replacement, but that's not the case today. The Leafs are preparing for a scenario where Auston would not be available for game number 5. » - Mark Masters
Clearly, it smells like the end and it smells like absence for Auston Matthews. A catastrophic development for Toronto.
