First NHL Player Hits Waivers to Kick Off the 2025 Offseason

We've got some action on the NHL waiver wire, as the first player has officially been placed on waivers during this 2025 offseason.

According to multiple sources, defenseman T.J. Brodie has officially been placed on waivers by the Chicago Blackhawks, who also completed a trade earlier today.

Defenseman TJ Brodie Placed on NHL Waivers: First Player Available for Free This Summer

Here are the confirmations:
"TJ Brodie is on waivers for the purpose of a buyout."

"The Blackhawks have placed TJ Brodie on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout."

"Chicago has placed TJ Brodie on waivers and will buy out his contract once he clears.

Following the buyout, Chicago will face a cap hit of 3.233 million dollars in 2025-26 and 258,333 dollars in 2026-27."

We're eager to see who's next-because yes, there will definitely be more.
At 35 years old, Brodie is a 6-foot-2, 187-pound left-shot defenseman with 358 points in 962 career NHL games.
Last season with the Chicago Blackhawks, he recorded 10 points in 54 games and had a minus-18 rating.
