Utah GM reveals who he would've picked if both Iginla and Demidov were available
The Utah hockey team has made an unexpected statement involving Ivan Demidov and the Montreal Canadiens.
As Canadiens fans, we consider ourselves extremely lucky to have landed Ivan Demidov with the 5th overall pick, but we've just learned that he would have been available at the 7th overall pick if Kent Hughes had passed on him.
Imagine how much of a home run that would have been for the Ottawa Senators!
They could have ended up with the second most talented player in the draft with the seventh selection.
Utah wanted Tij Iginla at all costs and they were happy with the Montreal Canadiens' choice
Of course, it's easy to say in hindsight, but Utah's general manager, Bill Armstrong, has indeed revealed that they would have taken Iginla over Demidov at the 6th spot.
Tij Iginla was ahead of Ivan Demidov on their list.
On TSN, Armstrong confirmed this information very clearly.
« Utah GM Bill Armstrong on TSN OverDrive says they were anxious when Celine Dion was picking for the Canadiens because it took her so long to make the pick announcement, when they finally did they exploded off their table knowing they were getting Tig Iginla.»
«Imagine being happy about missing the chance to draft Ivan Demidov? Bizarre.»

Armstrong added that he is extremely happy to add Iginla to his organization, a very intense, highly competitive player with a lot of grit.
It's great if they're happy, but personally, I would have been extremely disappointed to see the Canadiens pass on Demidov with the 5th overall pick.
We now have a potential elite talent and a future NHL star.
Certainly, if Montreal had selected
Zeev Buium (as some rumors suggested), the Ottawa Senators would have hit a home run.
