We have a very nice surprise today for the Montreal Canadiens, and it really changes things for General Manager Kent Hughes.
We had almost given up hope, especially since the Arizona Coyotes were hardly ever winning, but here we are!
Major Draft Acquisition: A Beautiful Surprise for Kent Hughes and Canadiens Fans This Morning When Checking the Standings!
As of today, the Canadiens have climbed into the top-5 of the NHL's reverse standings, which means:
- A top-4 or top-5 overall pick is now very likely
- Better chances of winning the Macklin Celebrini lottery
and also
- Better chances of winning the 2nd overall pick in 2024.
«Coyotes win
+ Senators win
+ Canadiens loss
= A perfect evening for the Canadiens' lottery ticket, which is now the 5th best!» - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin
With four or five games left in the season, here's the current situation.
25 - CALGARY - 73 POINTS IN 76 GAMES (8th best lottery ticket)
26 - OTTAWA - 72 POINTS IN 77 GAMES (7th best lottery ticket)
27 - ARIZONA - 71 POINTS IN 77 GAMES (6th best lottery ticket)
28 - MONTREAL - 70 POINTS IN 77 GAMES (5th best lottery ticket)
29 - COLUMBUS - 64 POINTS IN 78 GAMES (4th best lottery ticket)
This will be an interesting case to follow until the end of next week, but Kent Hughes is now in a strong position to make a major acquisition at the 2024 draft.
In a few days, the Canadiens have dropped two positions in the standings but have gained two ahead of the 2024 draft lottery.
The Habs today have an 8.5% chance of landing Macklin Celebrini.
