Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens seem determined to build a family-like atmosphere in their locker room.
When commenting on potential acquisitions, whether through trades or other means, Hughes and Gorton often emphasize the importance of a player fitting in well within the locker room.
Well, that trend is clearly visible in the draft.
After acquiring
Juraj Slafkovsky's childhood friend in 2022 (Mesar), and
Arber Xhekaj's brother in 2023 (just to name a few).. Kent Hughes has now acquired another childhood friend of a current Montreal Canadiens player.
This time, it's none other than the childhood friend of
Ivan Demidov.
It was easy to say the Canadiens had drafted a fellow Russian when selecting Zharovsky-but it goes deeper than that!
Alexander Zharovsky and Ivan Demidov are childhood friends, and Ivan is extremely happy about the Canadiens' pick
Ivan Demidov didn't waste any time before texting Zharovsky.
Alexander Zharovsky on what his friend Ivan Demidov told him today after getting drafted by the Habs:
"He said right away that he would help with whatever was needed. We have a very good relationship."

"I just got off the phone with him! We were so happy. I've known him since I was eight years old. He said to me: 'We'll finally be able to play together.'
"Of course, we'd love to be on the same line. We've been talking about it for a long time."
- Zharovskyon on Demidov
Yes, Demidov was clearly thrilled with this pick by Kent Hughes and the Canadiens.
Things are looking promising!
