Earlier today, journalist Eric Engels of Sportsnet was asked about the possibility of Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens seriously considering Elias Pettersson.
We're talking about an elite player here.
As we reported to you, things are stirring between Pettersson and the Canucks. They don't seem to hold on to each other, which is really strange, but it's certain that other teams will be watching this case very closely.
It's extremely rare to see such a player potentially available.
See Engels' response.
"Do you think the Canadiens will try to get Elias Pettersson next summer?"
Answer.
"If he actually becomes available - and I don't know how he would as an RFA - they (the Montreal Canadiens) and nearly 30 other teams will consider acquiring him." - Eric Engels
There you have it. So, we can dream about it, but not much more.
Pettersson, 24 years old, accumulated 102 points (39 goals) in 80 games last season and 13 points in 8 games this season.
His contract ends this summer.
