Auston Matthews pours his heart out about Mitch Marner
Now that everything is over for the Toronto Maple Leafs, forward Auston Matthews has poured his heart out about Mitch Marner.
Marner has once again been intensely targeted by fans, and many journalists have been extremely tough on him.
He has been intensely publicly criticized for the past few days, and it seemed to really irritate Matthews.
Auston Matthews: «In my time here, I've learned there's always a scapegoat. There's always a narrative. There's always something. We love Mitchy
It's tough when one of your teammates has to deal with these horrible things." - Via journalist Luke Fox, from Toronto
Matthews continued by pouring his heart out about the many criticisms and threats Marner has unfortunately had to endure over the last few days.
He was keen to defend his teammate and he had a lot to say.
We understand Matthews is trying to support his teammates, but the Leafs, led by Marner and Matthews, fall short every year:
Numbers don't lie, in the last 7 winner-take-all games the Leafs are 0-7 and Matthews and Marner have a combined 0 goals..
As for Mitch Marner himself, he had this to say:
"Challenges create adversity, and we've been through a lot and it will only make us better." - Mitch Marner, about the core of four players from the Leafs
Marner, 27 years old, 6 feet and 180 pounds, is a 4th overall pick in 2015 (1st round) and he has amassed 85 points in 69 games this season, including 26 goals. In the playoffs, he added three points in seven games against the Boston Bruins.
