Following the Leafs' elimination, Kyle Dubas had mentioned that he would take some time to reflect on his future, which he wanted either to make a return with the Toronto team or take a step back in view of the next season.
However, a few days later, Brendan Shanahan fired the general manager while he had reportedly asked for a considerable salary increase for his contract extension.
While Kyle Dubas specified that he wished to stay with the Leafs, numerous rumors sending him to the Pittsburgh Penguins surfaced in recent days. According to several sources, he notably met with Sidney Crosby to discuss his vision regarding the future of the organization.
According to Josh Rimer, a source close to the team indicated that the Pittsburgh Penguins and Kyle Dubas are currently finalizing a contract for him to become the next general manager of the organization. David Pagnotta, from The Fourth Period, seemed to confirm this rumor on Twitter.
