Tortorella heavily punishes his team following a 9-3 loss to the Habs
Last night, in the middle of the NHL playoff race, John Tortorella's Flyers suffered a humiliation at the Bell Centre against the Canadiens.
It completely degenerated for the visitors, who were defeated by a score of 9 to 3 in a match that was so important for them.
In a press conference after the game, their head coach had a lot to say, and he made an unexpected move to punish his players.
A Special Punishment from John Tortorella at the Bell Centre
He didn't make his players run around the arena like Eddie Shore used to do, nor did he make them skate like Herb Brooks, but he forced them to sit at their locker, fully dressed, to face the journalists.
Even the injured players had to endure this punishment from Tortorella.
According to journalists on site, it was the first time they had seen this since the days when Alain Vigneault was with the Montreal Canadiens. Wow.
And if you include the players scratched from the lineup, it makes it a completely new punishment in the NHL.
"They have to answer the questions. We've hit rock bottom," a very emotional Tortorella said after the game.
He continued:
"I hate to see us play this way at this time of the season after doing so many good things during the season. I'm not questioning the effort or the will. We've just lost our effectiveness in managing games. And it's a merciless league."
John Tortorella was visibly frustrated and extremely disappointed by the turn of events, as he sees his team slowly losing their grip on the 2024 playoffs.
The Flyers were going to make the playoffs, but they are in the process of letting it all slip away.
A file to follow until the end of the season!
