John Tortorella gives the press conference of the year
It's extremely rare for a simple press conference to go viral, but that's exactly what just happened with John Tortorella.
He just gave a lesson in "coaching" to the entire hockey world.
And probably for the first time in his career, he allowed so many people to better understand how he operates.
We've just understood why he is such a good head coach and why he acts the way he does.
The press conference in question is right here; it was shared by dozens of experts and journalists, and it's truly worth listening to.
Tortorella was notably questioned about his controversial statement from the last few hours and the fact that his team is causing a surprise by being in the playoffs. (because they are very young and were not supposed to be in the playoffs, according to many)
"This is nonsense! We are here! We are here (in the playoffs)! It's simple. We just have to be better, and I don't think we are ready to be better yet.
And that's my problem with our team right now. And it's my fault! It was my job! I didn't do a good enough job to take them to the next level.
That's my frustration towards myself and towards the team.
If some can't handle it, well, that'll be it. [...]
Make no mistake about it. I am extremely proud of our team, I love coming here and working with them, but it's my job to take them to the next level.
And in that sense, I did a crappy job."
- John Tortorella
He let slip a few swear words, but he just delivered an incredible message.
This is just a snippet, but for 15 minutes, he explains ALL his methods, and he explains why he believes it's the right way to do things.
